Step 6: Topic Ideas

In this task, you should start thinking about topic ideas based on your education, any certificates you may have, your job, and your life experiences.

So we’ve gone through 4 different areas of your life. Your education, any certificates you may have, your job, and your life experiences.

Hopefully, you’re coming up with some good ideas for an online course you may already have some knowledge of. Remember, where you’re at now is just a starting point. You can always gain more knowledge on your topic area as you create your course.

You’re going to have to decide on a topic from your list of topic ideas. I’ll show you how to look at the marketplace to determine if the topic idea is profitable in the next module. But for now, you do need to start thinking about a specific one.

And if you’re just sitting there saying, Lisa, I don’t have any special skills, I don’t believe it.

I bet you do. But maybe you do and you don’t think you’d make money with that topic, it doesn’t interest you as a course topic, or you just don’t have the confidence for it.

It’s OK.

You might want to see a list of good course topics to help get you started. It can also help ensure that the thing you’re good at is possible to build a course business around.

So in the action plan, I’ve got a very detailed list of good topic industries with some examples. No matter what, even if you don’t want to get into something you have an affinity with, you may want to look at this.

I’ve sorted these out by major industries. See if your topic idea is in here, or if you still don’t have a topic idea at this point, then you can hopefully find one.

I do want to point out that there are no income guarantees. Just because a topic is on this list doesn’t mean you will make money if you create a course on that topic. And just because a topic isn’t on the list doesn’t mean you won’t make money with it.

To complete this action plan, review the list of topics. Take some off the list that interest you or you feel you may have experience in. Start deciding on your topic area.

Task

Here’s where you need to decide on a topic idea. Remember that it can always change.
